Camp Club USA eNews October 2009 | | October 2009 | | | READ: Storing your RV By Brent Peterson
For those of us toiling in northern climes, RV storage is as common rite of winter as digging out the Christmas lights and spraying the bottoms of the kid's sleds with WD-40. But extended RV layoffs aren't solely for those living in cold weather climates. For whatever reason (injury, busy schedule, extensive non-RV travel), you may find yourself tucking away your RV for an extended period of time. Such a goodbye between man and dutiful machine is a somber act, for sure, but one that must be performed correctly if we intend to return to the vehicle in the same fighting shape as we left it. Some methods of vehicle hibernation, of course, are better than others. Here's a comprehensive to-do list to get your vehicle ready for its big sleep.

And now, here’s a story from a Camp Club USA member about things that go bump in the night:
Our tale begins at Yucaipa Regional Park this summer: Our first night in the campground started with a real bang. My husband and I had gone to bed around 10:30 pm and were sound asleep when around 2 am we woke up to a noise that sounded like someone running a stick against the spokes of a bicycle tire, only it was coming from our motorhome. We heard it a second time and it was followed by a hard jolt to our motorhome. My first thought was that something was horribly wrong in the engine compartment and at the same time we were having an earthquake. Needless to say, we were now wide awake. My husband got dressed and went outside to see what was happening.
This is what he found:
The park has rainbird type sprinklers to water the grass at night and as the rainbird made its rotation each time, it was right in line with the edge of our awning. The stream of water was hitting the metal post, causing the noise we had heard.
The park asks campers to place wooden blocks under the levelers in order to protect the parking pad. One of the blocks of wood under our coach was apparently weak and had chosen the same time as the sprinklers came on to give way under the weight of one of our levelers - causing the hard jolt we felt.
The mystery was solved in a very short period of time and we were able to go back to bed without worrying about things that go bump in the night.
